Statement by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the recent remarks of the UK Secretary of State for Defence in the House of Commons on 23 March 2026
Referring to the recent remarks made by the UK Secretary of State for Defence in the House of Commons on 23 March 2026 (3 Farvardin 1405), the Embassy expresses its strong protest and categorical rejection of the baseless and provocative allegations raised against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Embassy firmly rejects the claim that Iran constitutes a threat. The Islamic Republic of Iran poses no threat to any party; rather, it has itself been a victim of ongoing aggression by certain allies of the United Kingdom. Any attempt to portray Iran as the aggressor—while disregarding the documented and well-known actions of those responsible for initiating aggression and continuing hostilities—constitutes a deliberate distortion of reality and a serious affront to the truth.
The Embassy emphasizes that such narratives, including those reflected in the aforementioned remarks, represent an unacceptable attempt to reverse the positions of victim and aggressor. This approach not only undermines the credibility of the United Kingdom’s claims of adherence to international law and its self-portrayal as a civilized nation, but also risks further exacerbating the current fragile situation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the Government of the United Kingdom to correct its course, refrain from further misrepresentation of the situation, and stand on the right side of history by opposing aggression, addressing its root causes, and supporting genuine efforts to reduce tensions and establish regional peace and stability.
